Valentine + Erdem

Valentine Fillol Cordier is undoubtedly one of my style icons, the model turned stylist, mixes granny chic with a grunge aesthetic and always manages to look flawless. Her latest styling venture is for designer of the moment Erdem's exclusive collection for Matches, showcases his divine florals alongside a French soundtrack.
As Valentine plays around in a full length gown, her divine blunt bob (hair cut inspiration!) and certain je ne sais quoi show his designs off in a way no political wife could manage.

LANVIN FOR H&M.

tfs

The first image from H&M's Lanvin collection emerged today featuring the gorgeous Natasha Poly, a very Alber one shoulder black dress and some floral embellished pearls. Now I'm just hoping for a glimpse of Alber's drawings and some jewel tones and this collection will be PERFECT. Currently stocking up on tents and sleeping bags to camp out for this...

Now this is the way to wear leopard print, sheer, classy, maxi and with minimal accessories.
I also love the granddad jumper.

Pat Butcher, take note.

Carven Spring/Summer 2011.

style.com

It is hard to believe that it is only three seasons since Guilliaume Henry relaunched Carven after its couture heyday in the middle of the twentieth century. Henry has since become known for creating classic, beautifully tailored items for a reasonable price. After creating the perfect camel coat for Autumn/Winter 2010, for Spring Henry created silk nude suits, chic blazers, evening gowns, digitally printed dresses and a shocking lilac suit. What is so attractive about the Carven label is the versatility of each piece, these items could be worn in a variety of ways and on a day to day basis, although the final look of a striking black evening dress would not look out of place on the red carpet. Each look was accessorised with a pair of plain court shoes with a bow at the back which resembled bunny ears, adding a twist to each look. Henry showed his abilities as a couturier, by creating a few extrovert pieces alongside the more versatile. Describing his third collection as 'Bourgeois, but with a nasty side', Guilliaume Henry created a gorgeous, understated collection showing promise for seasons to come.

Christopher Kane Spring Summer 2011

vogue.co.uk

I fell in love with Christopher Kane after seeing the images of his Central St Martins MA Collection in 2006 containing neon bright dresses belted with car seat belts. The Scottish designer brought back neon brights this season, four years after his debut collection. For Spring Summer 2011, Christopher Kane certainly channelled the late nineties, producing a collection of midi length dresses teamed with believe it or not platform flip flops similar to those spotted in Dawsons Creek. I love the peacock and polka dot prints on these dresses, the midi length of everything and the neon laser cut pieces. The mixture of lace, florals, leather, suits and diamond knit cardigans in neon brights would not be seen anywhere else other than at Christopher Kane and oddly it worked.

Also token yay for Jessica Stams appearance at Kane and later Giles!

Margaret Howell Spring Summer 2011

style.com

Margaret Howell created a collection which would not look out of place on a French schoolgirl who grew up and moved to London. Sticking to her usual palette of nude, blue and white Howell made a wearable collection that is sure to send London hipsters wild. Personal favourites include the toggled cropped duffle, tan penny loafers, nude silk blouses and the beach stripe dresses which remind me simultaneously of deckchairs and my Grandpa's old pyjamas. What I most admire about Howell is her ability to make clothes for the English, she has created coats for the Summer as yes, it rains here ALL THE TIME. The collection inspired by the forties is ageless and feels ideal for the cool Spring days ahead of us.

Charles Anastase Spring Summer 2011

style.com

Charles Anastase found a more sophisticated direction for his signature gamine look this season creating a ‘light and happy’ collection of mid length dresses in muted hues. After Autumn Winter’s deconstruction experiment, Anastase returned to his wearable formula of peter pan collar coats, sheer polka dots, ruffled necklines and stacked wedges. For Spring Summer Jane Birkin and Charlotte Gainsbourg serve as the designers muses, explaining the pared down vibe of the collection. It is easy to imagine Jane breezing round Paris in one of the mid length dresses straw basket in hand. Possibly due to his Birkin inspiration, Anastase moved away from the dramatic ruffled pieces of previous collections creating versatile pieces, adding his signature quirky geek glasses and pastel sheer tights. Each model wore a blunt bobbed wig very reminiscent of Abbey Lee Kershaw’s iconic bob and the current style of Charles’ muse Valentine Fillol Cordier.

Highlights from the collection included

- The divine sheer dress with flowers on it, simultaneously romantic and sexy.

- A sheer polka dot bodysuit

- Silver jacquard pegged trousers which would look perfect on a summer evening.

- Ruffle necked blouses.

- Orange stacked wedges that the models were unable to walk in.

Alexa for Madewell.

refinery29

We are giant fans of you and Madewell. What drew you to doing a collab with them?
"It was a brand I really like, and after we had our first meeting, I could tell we were all sort of on the same page about what we could do together, and I could see how it would work. Plus, I got the sense I would have free reign as they were interested in me doing what I wanted, and I found that very appealing."

Alexa Chung's Madewell collaboration was launched online on September 8th and in store two days later and has already mostly sold out. Featuring velvet hot pants, silk shirts, peter pan collar dresses and polka dots aplenty, Alexa along with Madewell the sister store to J Crew created a collection which is both stylish and wearable. The campaign images featuring Alexa wondering around idyllic fields in the countryside, show the wearability of the collection, which consists of the items Alexa felt were missing from her own wardrobe. After falling in love with the collection when it was previewed at New York Fashion Week this February, I couldn't resist but to purchase the Tennessee Dress and Billie Velvet Shorts. If my bank balance was in a less drastic state I would have also treated myself to the Annie Polka Dot blouse (VERY upset I don't currently own this), the high waisted jeans, the Margot silk skirt and the perfect camel coat featured in the collection. Alexa ensured she did what Kate Moss did in her first Topshop collection creating items which would be wearable and go well in anyones wardrobe, I just hope the quality of the pieces match the prices!

Now to hope Alexa is not to busy to create a sequel, as I clearly should start saving now.

Token Chung at the Chanel Soho Reopening last week, she has been flawless recently.

Lanvin for H&M.

The most exciting fashion news to hit the high street in YEARS emerged over the last few days as rumours of a Lanvin/H&M collaboration emerged. When this was confirmed this morning via a youtube video, a number of fashionistas worldwide began to buy camping equipment, as this will be insane.

The adorable Alber Elbaz is a rarity in that he creates clothes for women in sumptuous fabrics that are both artistic and wearable. Alber is well known for the fact he only allows models to walk in his show in outfits that make them look beautiful, whereby you can 'see their faces, not just the clothes.' Alber has completely reformed Lanvin since he became artistic director in 2001, turning the label from a dying house to one of the most successful and stylish to date. One can only hope the collection will contain beautifully draped dresses, chic coats and a version of the luxury t-shirt with Alber's drawings on that I have been dreaming of for years. With the recent lacklustre high street collaborations, Lanvin will bring back some much needed luxury to H&M with quality clothes for (hopefully) reasonable prices.

Flawless.

Chloe Sevigny at the HBO Emmy after party in leopard print and Louboutins looking flawless.
With her perfect long legs, penchant for red lips and toned body Chloe is the poster girl for a stylish, alternative look and to top it of she has a Golden Globe. This is the girl who can wear Mum jeans, clogs, geek glasses and cable knit all at once whilst looking stylish. Her collections for Opening Ceremony featuring leopard print granddad cardigans, short skirts and fierce buckled shoes are a hit with both the fashion industry and consumer. Here Chloe looks polished and gorgeous at the same time wearing both bows and leopard print, showing with those legs she can literally wear anything.

Purple.

Chloe by Terry with a naked Raquel Zimmermann and a Chanel portfolio inside.
Oliver Zahm may be 'alternative' in his lifestyle choices, but sure he knows how to put together a good magazine.

On another note Lou Doillon is in the new season of Gossip Girl? clearly a must watch.

Oops she did it Again..

style.com

The gorgeous Miss Spears on the cover of the new POP, shot by Todd Cole and style by Takashi Murakami, looking very reminiscent of her nineties heyday. These covers remind me of the kind of cheesy Japanese pop magazine that Britney would have been on around the time she wore school uniforms and leather catsuits. Dasha Zhukova here shows her willingness to try something new after the previous excellent Abbey Lee cover, giving her promising status as the magazine's new editor after Katie Grand's departure.

With the recent return of Levi's 501's, 90210 remakes and military shirts, the 90's revival is obviously going strong, now all we need is a Freaks and Geeks reunion plus a Dawsons Creek inspired editorial please.

French Women do it better.

chanel.com

Clemence, Charlotte and Anna at Chanel Couture.
So chic, these French women show that simplicity really is the key (along with an abundance of Chanel), as I am getting older and poorer I am really starting to consider the idea of the French capsule wardrobe. I feel I should be buying basics that last for years like a great coat, boots, simple white shirts and bags (Chanel 2.55!). However, this is not to say it is just beautiful clothes that makes these women appeal to me, it is there chic polished attitude along with long term muse relationships to established French designers that make them such an inspiration.

Dream Items for my 'French' wardrobe
1. Chanel 2.55
2. Good quality black wool slightly cropped trousers
3. White silk shirt (Chloe?)
4. Acne Rita Leather Jacket
5. Chanel Two Tone Flats
6. See by Chloe Silk and Wool Printed Dress.
7. Lover Tilly Lace Top.

Plus anything Isabel Marant and more Lover (ok I am evidently not made for a capsule wardrobe!)...

Marc Jacobs

The Marc Jacobs Autumn Winter campaign shot by Juergen Teller and featuring Ann Kenny, Monika Jagaciak and Frida Gustavsson has appeared. These folksy images of long haired beauties in long skirts, camel, ankle socks and bohemian dresses look like they're from another era and almost remind me of The Virgin Suicides. Juergen Teller again uses his talent for simplicity to transport the observer to a world that is both dreamlike and realistic.

Margaret Howell A/W 2010.

tfs

Margaret Howell's Autumn Winter campaign, featuring the gorgeous Alana Zimmer and photographed by Venetia Scott came out this week. The multitude of shearling, tweed and cord in this collection ensured it was one of my favourites of London Fashion Week and the ad campaign which looks like it's set at Oxbridge in the eighties is just perfect. These images of Alana strolling through an old house reminds me of films including Annie Hall and the upcoming Never Let me Go. The juxtaposition of masculine and feminine in Howell's collections which feature a multitude of tweed, checks and silk shirts simultaneously remind me of a Grandma and a hipster. The final image of Alana in a chair with natural hair and make up and a gorgeous mid length skirt is my favourite, and perfectly encapsulates this seasons return to femininity.

Freaks and Geeks, The Trends.

I have recently become obsessed with the underrated Judd Apatow show Freaks and Geeks, which literally launched everyone including James Franco, Jason Segal, Seth Rogan and Busy Phillips. This show focuses around the life of Lindsay Weir (Linda Cardellini) her brother Sam (John Francis Daley) and their respective freak and geek friends. Despite being set in 1980, Freaks and Geeks makes some interesting style statements which clearly fit in with the Autumn/Winter 2010 aesthetic; secretly I can't help but hope Christopher Bailey took tips from Sam Weir this season..

Shearling

I wouldn't be surprised to see anonymous hipsters in the coat Sam wears throughout Freaks and Geeks and Nick's jacket is very similar to one that is currently in Topshop.
Due to my love of shearling, I will clearly be channelling Sam Weir this season.

Military

The jacket that symbolises Lindsay's 'rebellion', she always wears it when she's one of the Freaks, is clearly a reference to the military trend.

Maxi Skirt

Intended to be reserved and signal Lindsay's return to the mathlete fold, spotted in the 2000's on Mary Kate..

Camel
My personal favourite Bill rocking camel, as seen in abundance at Chloe this season. Mr Weir also looking stylish in a cardigan/tie combination.

Shirts

Lindsay and Nick, in checked and safari shirts.

Notable Mentions:
Bill in a fishing hat.
Sam's stripe/chino combinations.
Nick's high waisted maroon trousers.
Daniel's leather jacket addiction.

Aah this has cheered me up slightly, now I have no episodes left to watch. Clearly a show that should not have been cancelled on such a cliffhanger, I now just have to dream that Daniel bonded more with the geeks, Lindsay and Nick reunited and most of all that Lindsay got a new jacket after she returned from stalking The Grateful Dead..
